Project Details

Name: Artesian Borehole Project – Hamoud bin Abdullah al Qahtani

Community: Atebubu Mempeasem, Atebubu Amantin Municipal, Bono East Region, Ghana

About the Atebubu Mempeasem Community

Atebubu Mempeasem is a rural community with limited access to safe and reliable drinking water. Most households depend on hand-dug wells, which often dry up during the dry season. Water from these sources is frequently contaminated with coliforms and E. coli, posing health risks. Seasonal water shortages also affect livestock, impacting livelihoods. A sustainable borehole will provide the community with a reliable source of clean water.

Borehole Technical Specifications

  1. Borehole Depth: 150 metres (artesian)

2. Solar Power System: Direct PV pump system, total capacity 2,000 W, consisting of:

 - 300 solar panels, 550 W each

 - Hybrid DC controller (80–200 V, IP68, thermal class F, 2,000 W capacity, float switch for water-level control)

 - Solar pump: 1,100 W, flow rate ~10 L/min, head 80–160 m, 2.0 HP

  1. Water Tank: One metallic tank of 10 m³ capacity
  2. Tank Platform: Built with 8-inch diameter steel pipes, 17 ft high for stability and durability

    6. Livestock Watering Trough: Dedicated trough for both humans and animals

    7. Protective Fencing: Wire-mesh fence surrounding the tank, solar panels, and borehole area for safety

    8. Water Quality Test: Conducted and approved by Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to meet national drinking water standards

    9. Lighting System: Six (6) solar floodlights installed around the borehole and water distribution area for illumination and security

      Expected Benefits:

      • Provides safe drinking water for the community
      • Reduces risk of waterborne diseases
      • Ensures reliable water supply for livestock, supporting livelihoods
      • Enhances sustainable access to clean water in Atebubu Mempeasem
